Research Interests

My research interests are archaeological theory (identity and material culture) and the ancient languages and archaeology of the eastern Mediterranean - during the Late Bronze and Early Iron Age - especially focusing on  'Mycenaean' Greece and 'Hittite' Anatolia.

In my education and research I have combined a wide range of disciplines, most importantly Archaeology (Anatolia and Greece), Ancient Languages (esp Hittite, Hieroglyphic Luwian, Hurrian and Akkadian) and Anthropology (ethnicity and identity-theory).

Educational background
2005: BA Archaeology and Prehistory, University of Amsterdam (UvA) (honors; GPA: 8.6/10)
2008: MA Archaeology, UvA (honors; GPA: 9.0/10)
2006- 2007: Visiting-student at Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at the University of Chicago (Nuffic Talentenbeurs)
2008-present: PhD student at the UvA (Project title: The 'Mycenaeans'in thesoutheastern Aegean revisited)

PhD Project
My current PhD project - at the University Amsterdam - is entitled The 'Mycenaeans' in the southeast Aegean revisited . It is conducted under supervision of Prof. dr. V.V. Stissi (promotor) (Amsterdam), Dr. G.J.M. van Wijngaarden (supervisor) (Amsterdam) and Prof. J. Hazenbos (co-promoter) (München/Amsterdam). The first - theoretical/methodological - part introduces a new approach to the relationship between people and material culture - a neo culture- historical approach . This approach is applied to the archaeological record of Late Bronze Age Greece. The goal is to develop a (materially-based) working definition of 'Mycenaean' "identity" in- and outside of Greece. In the second part this definition is applied to (archaeological) contexts in the southeastern Aegean (e.g. Rhodes, Kos, Psara and southwestern Anatolia).
