Sander Govaerts is a PHD candidate at the Centre of Culture and History. His research project is entitled “Mosasaurs. Armies and their influence on ecosystems in the Meuse region, 1300- 1850” and argues that the environmental impact of warfare can't be reduced to destruction and loss of biodiversity. Armies often had a distinctive role in the conservation of ecosystems, which can be examined by transgressing traditional national and chronological boundaries. He is interested in the interactions between warfare and society in general.
