Research

My research focuses on the relationship between education and youth citizenship development. In particular, tackle the following themes:

 

  • Normativity and youth citizenship conceptualizations
  • Language and youth citizenship development
  • Classroom diversity and youth citizenship attitudes and knowledge

 

Research Interests

Youth citizenship studies are inherently multidisciplinary. Within the context of my PhD project, I am interested in:

 

  • Political theory
  • Inequalities in citizenship outcomes
  • Educational effectiveness 
  • Psychological models of citizenship development

 

Other topics of my interest include philosophy of education, the economic returns of education, and policy analysis.

Qualifications

2009 - 2011 MSc (cum laude), Education & Development, Research Master in Behavioural and Social Sciences, University of Groningen. Thesis on Equality of Rights Attitudes in Dutch Secondary Schools.
2008 - 2009 MSc, Brain and Mind Sciences, University College London. Thesis on The Sense of Agency and the Value of our Actions (distinction).   
2005 - 2008 BSc (cum laude), University College Utrecht, University of Utrecht. Major in Neuroscience.
