My central scientific concern is with the social origins of problems as diverse as hyperactivity, sadness, aircraft noise or environmental health risks. Particularly I want to find out if and how the experience of a problem and political processes interact.
In teaching, I focus on health and citizenship and qualitative and mixed methods. I have co-organized several workshops and international conferences on these matters.
Recently, I started developing software for open online collaborative interpretation, together with students, software developers, librarians and many enthusiast. See here or here.We have several prototypes and, financed by a grant from the University, will custom design a tool from december 2014 onwards.
My work is published in journals like Sociology of Health and Illness or Mobilization. You can find much of it on my researchgate page and on my academia page
In the last couple of years I was able to attract funding of about E 678.000. I am leading the program group Political Sociology.
Between March and April 2015, Tom van der Meer, Thijs Bol, Linda Duits and I have researched how staff and students of the University of Amsterdam think and feel about ongoing protests at the university. Here you can download the Dutch version of the report.
