Research

Thijs van Dooremalen is a PhD candidate in Sociology at the AISSR (Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research). He is working on a PhD project about the impact of 9/11 at public debates concerning Muslims and safety in the United States, France and the Netherlands. Empirically, his goal with this project is to find out to what extent and how the attacks at the Twin Towers and their aftermaths have affected the political cultures of these three countries. Theoretically, Thijs, through investigating the social dynamics of continuity and change for this case, aims to contribute to the sociology of events. His Supervisors are Jan Willem Duyvendak and Justus Uitermark.
