Research
My main research interest concerns the semantic and syntactic aspects of variation and change in Spanish and Portuguese, which I try to account for within the theoretical framework of Functional Discourse Grammar. Above all, I am interested in modality and verbal aspect as well as the grammaticalization of the expressions of these categories, with the emphasis on the differences between those two languageas and their European and American varieties. In addition, I am interested in the peculiarities of Ecuadorian Highland Spanish.
Academic year 2014-2015
For the period from August 2014 to July 2015 I have been invited as a visiting professor by the State University of São Paulo, at the Campus de São José do Rio Preto, where I will collaborate in research initiatives with my Brazilian colleagues using the framework of Functional Discourse Grammar; in addition I will teach introductory and advanced courses on this theory.
Bibliography
Until recently I worked as an editor of the Linguistic Bibliography / Bibliographie Linguistique , which covers linguistic publications from all disciplines and on all languages of the world with the emphasis on non-Indo-European languages and lesser known Indo-European languages.
