Ronald Janse joined the University of Amsterdam Law School in September 2012. He was assistant professor (since 1998) and associate professor (since 2005) at the Law School of Utrecht University from 1998 to 2012. He was seconded part-time to the Hague Institute for the Internationalisation of Law from 2007 to early 2013, where he built and led the rule of law program and was senior justice sector advisor.He co-founded and is co-editor in chief of the Hague Journal on the Rule of Law (http://journals.cambridge.org/action/displayJournal?jid=ROL) He is member of the Folke Bernadotte Academy Research Group on Rule of Law (http://www.fba.se)

Teaching
In Amsterdam, Janse teaches Introduction to law and the methodology of legal research in the bachelor program.He taught the course Law, Society and Justice at Utrecht University College from 1998, when UCU opened its doors, to 2007. He also taught courses in law and society, legal philosophy, introduction to law and legal reasoning in the bachelor program and a course on international legal theory in the master public international law at Utrecht University Law School.
Linking practice and academia
At HiiL, he wrote a series of reports on rule of law for the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the UN Rule of Law Unit and the Raoul Wallenberg Institute for Human Rights. He organized and led a series of workshops and conferences on such issues as security sector reform and rule of law, a monitoring mechanism for rule of law within the EU and innovations in rule of law promotion. He initiated and was general editor of a series of country reports on rule of law, generously supported by a grant from the Ministry of Economic Affairs. He was lead author of the HiiL Inventory Report on Rule of Law (2007), which was quoted by The Economist. He drafted Rule of Law -a Guide for Politicians, which has been translated into more than a dozen languages (http://rwi.lu.se/what-we-do/academic-activities/pub/rule-of-law-a-guide-for-politicians/)
Innovation in legal education
He co-founded and co-directed Utrecht Law College from 2005-2007. This was the first bachelor program in law in the Netherlands which selects students and which was officially recognized as an honors program by the Ministry of Education.
