Janna Coomans is a PhD Candidate at the Centre for Culture and History. Her four-year research project “Cleanliness in the Premodern City: Policies and Practices in the Late Medieval Low Countries ” (start Semptember 2013) explores hygienic ideals and sanitary practices in Dutch cities. The project will focus on the interplay between literary and medical discourses and socio-political and bodily customs in the urban environment. She has published on premodern public health as well as public history.
