I am Associate Professor of Latin at the University of Amsterdam and VU University Amsterdam, where I teach in the BA and MA programmes. I have for instance taught MA courses on Lucan's Bellum Civile and Valerius Flaccus' Argonautica.
My research focuses on Hellenistic Greek and Roman poetry. I am particularly interested in applying modern theories of intertextuality and metapoetics to understand important dynamics of classical poetry.
My book Echoing Hylas: A Study in Hellenistic and Roman Metapoetics, will be published in 2015 by University of Wisconsin Press.
I am currently conducting a VENI research project funded by NWO (Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research) on "The Poetics of Valerius Flaccus' Argonautica". As part of this project, Brill's Companion to Valerius Flaccus, edited by Gesine Manuwald (UCL) and me, was published in 2014 by Brill.
