Susanne van Esdonk is a PhD candidate at the Amsterdam School for Culture and History (Faculty of Humanities) and is conducting her research within the field of Religious Studies. Her research project, that is part of the NWO-funded project Delicate Relations: Jews and Muslims in Amsterdam and London, focuses on the present-day relations between Jews and Muslims in (Greater) London. It aims to describe and analyse forms of cooperation as well as opposition. Jewish-Muslim relations will be studied within a theoretical framework that is rooted in the work of sociologist Pierre Bourdieu, complemented by theories on inter-religious cooperation and conflict. Various methods of qualitative research will be used to collect data during multiple phases of fieldwork in London.
Junior member of the Netherlands School for Advanced Studies in Theology and Religion (NOSTER)
