Research

Sanne Frequin (1983) finished a Bachelor's degree in History of art at the University of  Utrecht in 2007, followed by a research master in Art at  Amsterdam University . She graduated cum laude on a thesis entitled 'Les pleurants. Pourquoi pleurent-ils? Een onderzoek naar middeleeuwse grafsculptuur.'

In September 2011 she started working on a PhD thesis at the University of Amsterdam concerned with the secular message displayed through the tombs of medieval Flanders and Hainaut (13th and 14th century)  titeled ' Voices from the grave: rendering piety and propaganda through medieval tombs '. In this research project the tombs will be investigated in the context of display of power and piety. Subject is the way tombs have functioned as a propagandistic tool for the dead, and more important, for the surviving relatives.
