Vera Blok obtained a MA (2001) in Art History from the University of Amsterdam and University of Florence, and she then concluded the five years’ postdoctorate training program in Conservation of Paintings at the Limburg Conservation Institute (SRAL) in Maastricht (2006). Her conservation studies were completed with internships at Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Van Gogh Museum, and Mauritshuis.
She has taken part in various research and conservation projects at several institutions – including the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Van Gogh Museum, Cobra Museum and Amsterdam Museum. Her field of expertise is focused on modern paintings.
Since 2010, alongside conducting practical work, she has been a lecturer in paintings conservation at the University of Amsterdam, within the Master’s program Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage. The work involves practical guidance of the second year Master’s students. The teaching includes theory lessons with a focus on 19th- and 20th-century paintings, supervision of Master’s theses, and coordination tasks.

Vera Blok is a freelance paintings conservator based in Amsterdam.
Her clients, among others, are the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Van Gogh Museum, Cobra Museum and Amsterdam Museum. For these institutions she took part in various research and conservation projects. She paid particular attention to the paintings by Piet Mondriaan and Karel Appel. From 2007 until 2010 she worked on the Mondriaan project of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.
In addition to the work for these art institutions, she has also undertaken projects in several private studios, for private clients and she participated as a team member in historic interior projects.
At present, her work consists of conservation practice and lecturing. Since 2010 she has been teaching within the Master program of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage at the University of Amsterdam.
