Carla F. Rodrigues is a PhD candidate at the Amsterdam Institute for Social Sciences Research – University of Amsterdam (since 2012) and a researcher at the Centre for Research and Studies for Sociology – University Institute of Lisbon (since 2008).
Her main research areas are Sociology of Health and Education, specifically lay rationalities in health; therapeutic pluralism; and pharmaceuticalisation of societies.
Alongside with academic research, she worked as assistant professor at the Egas Moniz Higher Education School of Health (2010-2012) and as research consultant at the NGO Doctors of the World (2007-2012) in Health and Development intervention projects in African countries, on the conduction of KAP surveys in Mozambique and Guinea-Bissau on ‘Malaria’ and ‘Water, Hygiene and Sanitation’ topics.
In the last years, she has been focusing her research on pharmaceuticals and therapeutic consumption. On her PhD, she is studying the logics of pharmaceuticalisation and the effects of globalisation on local therapeutic cultures in Mozambique. Her analytical approach will focus on lay practices and rationalities towards medicines as well as other therapeutic options.
