Biographical Sketch

Pumin Kommattam obtained his B.Sc. in Psychology at the Raboud University Nijmegen  and graduated with high honours from the Research Master Programme in Social Psychology at the VU Amsterdam in 2011. After working as a research and teaching assistant for a year, he currently holds a Mosaic grant by the Dutch Science Foundation (NWO) to  work on his PhD with Dr. Kai Jonas and Prof. Agneta Fischer at the University of Amsterdam.

Research Interests

The PhD project is focused on emotion interpretation in intercultural contexts. Specifically it investigates how Dutch natives tend to misinterpret emotions of ethnic minority members due to affective biases. My interest in emotion research is rooted in my passion for face research and social cognition. Besides ethnicity,I am also very interested in other social influences like gender, status, and heteronormativity.
