Kasper van Kooten (1983) studied Musicology, Art Studies and Music Theory at the University of Amsterdam, the Freie Universität Berlin and the Conservatory of Amsterdam. He graduated (with distinction) in 2011 with a master's thesis on Richard Wagner's music-theatrical iconoclasm, awarded in 2012 with the Marten Lürsen-Prize for best music-theoretical master's thesis in the Netherlands and Flanders. He has published on the operas of Richard Wagner and Giacomo Puccini, and currently works on a PhD-project on the conceptualization, institutionalization and canonization of German opera between 1798 and 1876. This research forms part of a SPIN-program on National Music, and is supervised by prof. dr. Joep Leerssen and dr. Krisztina Lajosi.
