meLê yamomo is an assistant professor of theatre studies at the University of Amsterdam. He completed a PhD in theatre studies and musicology at the Ludwig-Maximilans-Universität in Munich (Germany).  In 2010, meLê completed a dual Master's degree in international performance research and theaterwetenschap from the universities of Amsterdam (Netherlands) and Warwick (UK) under an Erasmus Mundus scholarship. From 2010-2013, he worked as a doctoral researcher at the DFG Kosseleck Project - "Global Theatre Histories". In 2007-08, meLê was a lecturer of theater and performance at the Assumption University of Thailand in Bangkok. He has also worked as a theatre director, composer, and designer in Manila and around Southeast Asia. In 2005-06, he was an Exchange Artist Fellow at the Korean National Arts Council and the Korean National Theatre . He was artist-in-residence of theatre at the CASA San Miguel in the Philippines between 1999 to 2002. He was also the founder and artistic director of different theatre companies in the Philippines. meLê trained in theatre directing and music composition at the Philippine High School for the Arts, and received a BA in art studies at the University of the Philippines.
