CMSA bachelor course nominated for Teaching Award

21 May 2013

Every year one of the courses taught in the faculty of Humanities is awarded the ‘Onderwijsprijs’ (Teaching Award) for its originality and execution. This year our CMSA bachelor course 'Middeleeuws Amsterdam in context' (Medieval Amsterdam in context) was awarded second place.

The course is designed and taught by Annika Rulkens and Jistke Jasperse. They have combined guest lectures by scholars with different backgrounds and visits to Amsterdam institutes in an interdisciplinary course enlightening the history of medieval Amsterdam.

Second place

The CMSA is proud that Middeleeuws Amsterdam in context was awarded second place and stimulates all students to subscribe for the academic year 2013-2014.

Exihibition

As a part of the course, students organize an exhibition. Last year’s exhibition was entitled Traces in the city. Objects that were displayed included medieval toys, a bullock dagger and illuminated manuscripts. The highlight of the exhibition was a pair of tongs used to make cloth seals, which was found during the North/South metro line excavations. The discovery of the tongs sheds new light on the textile industry of the medieval city of Amsterdam.
