Claartje Wesselink nominated for Jan van Gelderprijs

Former PhD Claartje Wesselink belongs with her thesis “Artists of the Kultuurkamer” to the nominees for the Jan van Gelderprijs, the annual price of the Vereniging van Nederlandse Kunsthistorici (VNK) rewarded as an encouragement to a young and promising historian under 35.

Wesselink (1980) is currently an academic lecturer for the Cultural History of Europe department of the FGw-UVA. She graduated on 28 March 2014 and was connected to the former Institute for Culture and History (ICG) for her PhD. Her promotors were two professors who are currently working for the Amsterdam School for Heritage and Memory Studies (ASHMS): Rob van der Laarse, academic director of ASHMS, and Frank van Vree, dean of the FGw.

The nominated thesis described the postwar intercourse in the Netherlands with artists that were known as ‘wrong’, because they collaborated with the German occupants. Publishing house Prometheus has published Artists of the Kultuurkamer in a commercial edition.

The announcement on the winner of the Jan van Gelderprijs and the awards ceremonie will take place in the Catharijneconvent in Utrecht at 7 November. The price consists of a amount of €1.000,- and a trophee.
