Symposium on Dutch book illustration in the 20th century
On 6 March 2015, a symposium about Dutch book illustration in the 20th century will take place at the Royal Library in The Hague. The symposium is organized on the occasion of the publication of the book 'The image makers. Dutch book illustration in the 20th Century' of Prof. Saskia de Bodt, who holds the special chair of the Fiep Westendorp Foundation at the Faculty of Humanities and is a staff member of the Amsterdam School for Heritage and Memory Studies (ASHMS).
De Bodt’s book is the first overview of more than a century of book illustration in the Netherlands. The symposium will discuss the question if this broad art form is sufficiently represented in the museum world and the archives.
The symposium is organized by the Royal Library, the Literary Museum, Museum Meermanno and the RKD Netherlands Institute for Art History.
