Malaga Prize of Essay for Cristian Crusat
Cristian Crusat Schretzmeyer (Spain, 1983) recently completed his PhD, under the supervision of Professor Ieme van der Poel and Dr Pablo Valdivia, at the University of Amsterdam. Crusat was member of ASCA and the groups of research coordinated by van der Poel and Valdivia. On July the 1st, his doctoral thesis was awarded the prestigious Malaga Prize of Essay.

The prize comprises 6.000 euros and the publication of the book by “Páginas de Espuma” publishing house. A total of 67 manuscripts were submitted for this edition of the prize. The jury emphasized the quality and the originality of Cristian’s monograph study as he achieved to review, to recover and to revitalise a non-visible tradition in the Hispanic Literature. In his study, Crusat assessed the works of Marcel Schwob in connection to the writings of Latin American writers such as Jorge Luis Borges and Roberto Bolaño. His book will be entitled Varia vita, una historia no académica de la biografía literaria desde Diógenes Laercio a Roberto Bolaño.
Cristian Crusat is also a laureate fiction writer. He has published Estatuas (Pre-Textos, 2006), Tranquilos en tiempo de guerra (Pre-Textos, 2010) and Breve teoría del viaje y el desierto (Pre-Textos, 2011). In 2012 edited and translated (in collaboration with Rocío Rosa) articles and essays of Marcel Schwob in El deseo de lo único. Teoría de la ficción (Páginas de Espuma, 2012). His book Breve teoría del viaje y el desierto obtained the Premio Internacional de Cuentos «Manuel Llano» 2010 and the European Union Prize for Literature 2013. He has recently been included in the anthology Cuento español actual. 1992-2012 (Cátedra, 2014).
