Representative advisory bodies UvA withhold approval for Amsterdam Faculty of Science
The Executive Boards of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and VU University Amsterdam (VU) are disappointed that – after receiving approval from the representative advisory bodies of the VU – the representative advisory bodies of the UvA have decided not to agree to the intended decision by both Boards to integrate their respective science faculties in the joint Amsterdam Faculty of Science (AFS).
Despite repeatedly being made aware – during the consultation process – of the possibility to formulate additional demands with regard to the realisation of the AFS, the UvA’s Joint Meeting has chosen not to make use of this opportunity. On Wednesday, 18 December, the Joint Meeting of the VU reached an agreement with Jaap Winter, president of the VU, on additional conditions concerning the finances, housing and quality assurance of teaching and learning.
Louise Gunning-Schepers, president of the UvA Executive Board: ‘Although the Executive Boards were hoping for a different outcome, it is good that we can now conclude this phase’.
Jaap Winter, president of the VU Executive Board: ‘It is quite disappointing for both our universities that such a promising initiative has now been halted. We will consider our options in January’.
The Executive Boards of the UvA and VU will have a joint meeting about the current situation on 9 January, 2014.
