UvA to take part in Holland Scholarship
The Holland Scholarship, a newly created Dutch scholarship programme, was officially launched on Monday, 16 February. The University of Amsterdam (UvA) will be one of the participating institutions in the programme, which is aimed at putting Dutch higher education on the map and is meant to stimulate the incoming and outgoing mobility of students.
Internationalisation spurs quality improvement, as can be witnessed by the study results of Dutch and international students in ‘international classrooms’. The UvA has the ambition to attract more international students, especially for its Master’s programmes. Scholarship programmes are indispensable if this goal is to be realised. Moreover, the UvA would like to stimulate outgoing student mobility, particularly during the Bachelor’s phase. A study experience abroad equips students with vital skills for a career in an increasingly globalising labour market.
Scholarships at the UvA
The Holland Scholarship has two variants: a scholarship of €5,000 for Bachelor’s and Master’s students from countries outside the EEA; and a scholarship of €1,250 for UvA students who wish to take part in an exchange programme abroad. The UvA will allocate a total of 36 scholarships for incoming students and 48 scholarships for outgoing exchange students.
The UvA already has two of its own scholarship programmes for international Master’s students: the Amsterdam Excellence Scholarship (AES) and the Amsterdam Merit Scholarship (AMS). The selection and conferral process for the 36 scholarships of the Holland Scholarship will be joined to these programmes.
