Linguistics again ranked best in continental Europe
The newly released QS World University Rankings by Subject 2013 ranks Linguistics 15th, rising from the 25th to the 15th place worldwide.
In the new rankings Linguistics at the UvA again is the most lauded in continental Europe and one of the world’s best. This is the third time that Linguistics at the UvA has managed to take top honours in Europe. In 2012 it was also ranked best in continental Europe but then took 25th place. In the 2011 rankings it shared the 22nd spot with Princeton University in the United States.
The universities ranked above the UvA are universities in Great-Britain, the United States, Australia and Japan. Ranked 23rd, Leiden University is the runner-up of continental Europe.
Evaluation
QS World University Rankings are compiled based on academic reputation (40%), employer reputation (10%), citations (20%), the ratio of staff to students (20%), the number of international academic staff (5%) and the number international students (5%).
