BIS track
For decades, organisations have been struggling with two central management issues:
- 'strategic fit': aligning strategic objectives with operating practices
- 'functional integration': acquiring and optimally using information systems to achieve strategic objectives
Business Information Systems (BIS) is an exciting and interdisciplinary track that focuses on the above issues of ‘business IT alignment’. It examines how modern ICT can contribute to the realisation of organisational goals, within a setting where:
- change (and even crisis) is normal
- organisations are part of chains or networks
Therefore, the consistency of information systems has to be maintained across organisational boundaries, in a sustainable and dynamic way. BIS teaches you to use ICT to model and solve organisational problems, by providing a balance of key business and technology skills. The programme's broad base will help you understand the needs of software engineers as well as business managers and users.
Student profile
BIS is the Master's (track)programme for you, if:
- you combine an interest in social sciences with an interest in ICT
- you are interested in the various ways in which (people within) organisations exchange, generate and retain information
- you want to discover how information systems contribute to these processes and what their limitations are
- you would like to join a population of highly motivated fellow students, with a broad range of educational backgrounds and work experiences
