UvA and VU science faculties explore collaboration with TU/e

12 September 2014

On 8 September 2014, the Rectores Magnifici of the University of Amsterdam (UvA), Prof. Dymph van der Boom, and of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), Prof. Hans van Duijn, agreed to explore further opportunities for intensive collaboration.

They will mainly focus on avenues for collaboration in the disciplines of mathematics, physics, chemistry and computing science.

'It would be wonderful if we could really capitalise on the complementarity of the science faculties at Amsterdam's broad-based UvA and VU University Amsterdam, on the one hand, and the more technically focused TU/e, on the other, particularly in the domains of fundamental and applied research, knowledge transfer and industrial projects', explained Karen Maex, joint dean of the UvA's Faculty of Science and the faculties of Sciences and Earth & Life Sciences at VU.

Rector Magnificus Hans van Duijn of TU/e is equally positive about the prospects of further collaboration with Amsterdam's universities. 'At Eindhoven we have a long tradition of knowledge exchange with both the business sector and other universities. Our institution is specialised in high-tech systems, data science and high-tech materials, and collaboration is an absolute must in order to share that knowledge and take it to a higher level.'
