Cees de Laat heads KLM-COMMIT/ research into cyber attacks
Prof. Cees de Laat, researcher at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) Informatics Institute, will head research into how cyber attacks can be automatically deterred by internet service provider consortiums and business networks.
De Laat will conduct his research in cooperation with Prof. Tom van Engers of the Leibniz Center for Law and Dr Leon Gommans of KLM and the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) cybersecurity project SARNET.
The COMMIT/ research will focus mainly on the organisational and legal aspects of consortiums. For parties to achieve the necessary mutual trust, the context demands the proper technical, organisational, and legal alignment of the autonomic response mechanisms.
Cyber attacks
This research is a partnership of KLM and COMMIT/, which includes the UvA's System and Network Engineering lab. It involves forming a group of internet service providers plus associated business networks, which have the mutual interest to minimise the number and expense of cyber attacks, and to share their knowledge.
With the launch of this partnership, KLM became a new partner in COMMIT/. On Friday, 13 February, Paul Elich, EVP KLM Information Services & CIO and Geleyn Meijer, COMMIT/ board member, signed a cooperation agreement, marking the start of KLM's partnership in the national ICT research programme of COMMIT/.
According to Geleyn Meijer, 'COMMIT is delighted to welcome KLM to the COMMIT/ partnership. It demonstrates that scientific research in ICT can be of immense benefit for meeting the challenges of today's society and businesses and that research and practice are not far removed from each other.'
About COMMIT/
COMMIT/ brings together scientific research and non-profit and for-profit organisations to realise ICT projects relating to the nine key economic sectors in the Netherlands for research into and development of pioneering products and services.
