OncoCommunicAging (OCA) research program
Julia van Weert is leader of the OncoCommunicAging research line on communication with older cancer patients, developed with support of the Dutch Cancer Society. Ultimately, this research line aims to establish evidence- and theory-based guidance for the development of optimal patient education for older cancer patients. Most OCA-projects are conducted in close collaboration with Prof. Dr. Ellen Smets and Prof. Dr. Hanneke de Haes (department of Medical Psychology, AMC) and Prof. Dr. Eugene Loos (ASCoR).
Selection of OCA projects:
- OCA-I: Effective ways of presenting online information to older cancer patients (Nadine Bol, PhD student)·
- OCA-II: Tailoring information to older cancer patients: Effects of using web-based provider- and patient-directed tools (Sifra Bolle, PhD student), including the systematic development of the web-based patient-directed tool ‘Patient Navigator’ (Geke Romijn, Romy Koopsen and Hans Teunisse)
- OCA-III: National survey on chemotherapy knowledge (Sifra Bolle, Christin Scholz)·
- OCA-IV: How to effectively tailor website information to older patients’ mode preferences: A Randomized Controlled Trial (Minh Hao Nguyen, PhD student with AMC/Kristien Tytgat & Anthony v.d. Ven)·
- Decision support tools for older patients (with Sydney University/Jesse Jansen and AMC/Barbara van Munster)
Link to VOICE
Julia van Weert was senior-researcher in the VOICE project, a large project on communication with older cancer patients preceding chemotherapy. All information (including publications and presentations) about VOICE can be found on this website. This project is currently extended with the systematic development and implementation of the web-based patient-directed tool ‘PatientVOICE’ (with Mara van Osch & Sandra van Dulmen, NIVEL)
Link to Veder Method
Julia van Weert is one of the projectleaders, together with Prof. Dr. Rose-Marie Droes (VU University Medical Center) and Prof. Dr. Berno van Meijel (Inholland University of Applied Sciences) on a PhD project (Petra Boersma, PhD student) studying the implementation of the Veder Method in dementia care. The Veder Method uses theatrical stimuli, such as theatrical communication (presentation/acte de présence, timing and intonation/tone), poetic communication (rhythm, associating, intonation/sound) and musical communication (recognizable songs of the past, humming, intentional use of music during the daily care) to improve communication in psychogeriatric care.
