Professor Mols has been a member of the Supervisory Board of the University of Amsterdam since 1 May 2013. He was reappointed in 2017 by the Minister of Education, Culture and Science until 1 May 2021. Mols is chair of the Education and Research Committee of the Supervisory Board.
Gerard Mols (1951) studied Law at Utrecht University where he obtained his PhD in 1982. In subsequent years he worked as an attorney in criminal cases in the Hague, Maastricht and Roermond, and as a lecturer in Criminal Law at Utrecht University and Maastricht University (UM). In 1986, Mols was appointed professor of Criminal Law at UM, where he became dean of the Faculty of Law in 1992. In 2004, he was appointed Rector Magnificus of Maastricht University, a post he held until September of 2012. Mols is currently a professor of Criminal Law and Law of Criminal Procedure at UM, and deputy justice at the Court of Den Bosch. Gerard Mols’s appointment to the UvA Supervisory Board ends on 1 May 2021.
