Social security and allowances

The Dutch social security system provides financial security when your income is affected by events such as (partial) disability, job loss or old age. Whether you will be participating in this system during your stay depends on your individual situation. As a rule, if you are employed by the University of Amsterdam you are automatically covered. Fellows, however, are often exempt from participating. Euraxess the Netherlands has a good overview of the most common situations regarding social security.

As a participant in the Dutch social security system, you have the right (and the obligation) to participate in the Dutch public healthcare insurance.
