The Brain and Cognition department at the University of Amsterdam is part of the Spinoza Center for Neuroimaging and equipped with its own fully research dedicated 3T and 7T MRI facility. There are also EEG labs and eye-tracking setups. We are surrounded by numerous experts in the relevant multivariate techniques of fMRI (both 3T as well as 7T) and MEG/EEG analysis, and on related topics as attention, memory, sleep, or pharmacological interventions.
A three-year postdoctoral position in cognitive neuroscience is available as part of an ERC funded project on the neural mechanisms of conscious experience. The postdoctoral researcher will be part of the consciousness and decision making lab led by Simon van Gaal at the University of Amsterdam. The lab consists of ~10 PhD’s/postdoctoral researchers all working on the neural basis of conscious experience using different techniques, including EEG, MEG, and 3T/7T fMRI.
Project and job description
The postdoctoral researcher will collaborate in designing and running experiments which investigate the underlying neural mechanisms of conscious experience. The postdoc project will involve 3T and 7T fMRI, eye-tracking (pupil size) and pharmacological interventions.
We are looking for a researcher specialized in fMRI, preferably with knowledge about, and experience with, 7T fMRI. Note that for this position applications will not be considered if the candidate has no proven experience with fMRI.
The candidate we are looking for has:
• a PhD in cognitive neuroscience, artificial intelligence or psychology, preferably in the field of consciousness/attention/vision research;
• experience with (complex) fMRI analyses, ideally on a 3T/7T (Philips) scanner;
• proficiency in programming experiments and writing data analysis scripts;
• proven track-record in publishing in international peer-reviewed journals.

This is in conformity with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
Applications should be sent by email to firstname.lastname@example.org and should include a CV, a brief statement of research interests, the expected date of availability and the names of 3 references (reference letters are optional at this stage). Please put all these documents in one file (no separate documents please) and state 'postdoc ERC, van Gaal' in the subject line.
