These positions are partially co-funded by CWI, Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences of the UvA, HvA, ORTEC, Spinoza fund of Prof. Vossen, and VUmc.

Amsterdam Data Science provides a network in which some 300 Amsterdam based scientists exchange Data Science knowledge and forge partnerships within and outside the academic community. This comprises the foundations of data science and data science for the life sciences, social analytics, business analytics, and digital humanities.

This advertisement concerns one of the 14 positions. This position is with Prof. Salomon and Prof. Peter Boswijk of the Faculty of Economics and Business of the UvA and with Prof. Koole of the Faculty of Sciences of the VU, and with the company ORTEC. Research will be conducted three days a week at the two academic institutions. Practical applications will be developed during two days per week at ORTEC.

Project description

Today’s consumers use a mix of traditional media (newspaper, TV) and online media. Moreover, they use multiple devices (PC, smartphone, and tablet). Therefore, a cross-channel multi-device model is needed to understand the relation between advertisement and sales. Such model combines at the individual level data from the digital media with the traditional aggregated data for the offline media (TV, radio, etc.). It is our objective in this project to contribute to this area and to develop new conversion contribution algorithms.

Research will be conducted three days per week at the two academic institutions. Practical applications will be developed during two days per week at ORTEC.

Tasks will be:

  • studying the literature, collecting data, building and testing models (in year 1 – 2);
  • building and testing models, deriving conclusions and writing academic papers (in year 3).

Requirements

The ideal candidate should have a PhD degree or Master (M.Sc) in (mathematical) statistics, operations research, econometrics or equivalent, with an interest in Business applications.
