Dr. Ellinoor Bergvelt is gastonderzoeker bij de Universiteit van Amsterdam. Zij was van 1992 tot 2012 verbonden aan de leerstoelgroep Cultuurgeschiedenis van Europa, bij de opleiding Algemene cultuurwetenschappen (voorheen Culturele studies/Museumstudies) van de Universiteit van Amsterdam. Zij heeft kunstgeschiedenis gestudeerd aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam, is verbonden geweest aan het Kunsthistorisch Instituut van de Rijksuniversiteit Utrecht (1976-1985) en aan de Rijksdienst Beeldende Kunst (Amsterdam, Den Haag; 1986-1992).

 In 2009 heeft zij met dr. Christine Delhaye de masterwerkgroep Signalementen begeleid, gewijd aan Mode en Musea. Zie de link Mode en Musea.

In het tweede semester van het studiejaar 2011/2012 heeft zij, samen met drs Claudia Hörster (conservator Koninklijk Huisarchief ) en drs Laura Smeets, een masterwerkgroep begeleid over de collecties van de Oranjes en de toegankelijkheid ervan (1750-1850). Een eerdere samenwerking heeft geleid tot een artikel in De Negentiende Eeuw 34 (2010; nr 79 in de Chronologische lijst publicaties), met bijzondere resultaten. Zie hieronder fig. 3 van dat artikel, waaruit blijkt dat niet zozeer de elite bij het Nederlandse publiek de overhand had, maar geschoolde en ongeschoolde arbeiders (gegevens van de Nederlandse bezoekers van het Rijksmuseum aan de Amsterdamse Kloveniersburgwal in de maand september 1860).De complete gegevens zijn te vinden in de scriptie van Claudia Hörster, waarmee zij de Researchmaster Kunstwetenschappen in 2010 cum laude afsloot.

Dr. Ellinoor Bergvelt is a specialist on collections and museums. She wrote a Ph.D. on the 19th-century history of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, Pantheon der Gouden Eeuw (1998); was co-editor of the two volumes about Dutch collecting in the 17th century, accompanying the exhibition, De wereld binnen handbereik (Distant worlds made tangible; Amsterdam Historical Museum, 1992), of the Dutch Open University volume: Kabinetten, galerijen en musea (20133, 20052 and 19931 ), and of several publications on interior design, including Van neorenaissance tot postmodernisme (1996).

She is, with dr Debora Meijers (UvA) , dr Lieske Tibbe (Radboud University Nijmegen) and dr Elsa van Wezel (Berlin, Institut für Museumsforschung) coordinator of the research project of the Huizinga Instituut: National Museums and national identity (Europe and the United States, c. 1760-1918). Her article about the collection of king Willem II (in Russian), just has been published in the catalogue entitled: Willem II and Anna Pavlovna. Royal Splendour at the Netherlands Court. The exhibition opened at the St. Petersburg, Hermitage on 24 September 2013 (see: http://www.codart.nl/exhibitions/details/2974). The exhibition will travel in 2014 to the Dordrecht Museum and Luxembourg (Villa Vauban - Musée d’Art de la Ville de Luxembourg).

Ellinoor Bergvelt publiceert over (industriële) vormgeving, landschapschilderkunst en verzamel- en museumgeschiedenis. In 1998 verscheen van de handelsuitgave van haar dissertatie Pantheon der Gouden Eeuw. Van Nationale Konst-Gallerij tot Rijksmuseum van Schilderijen (1798-1896) . Hiervoor ontving zij in 2000 de prof.dr. H.W. van Osprijs.

Zij is,met dr. Debora Meijers (UvA), dr. Lieske Tibbe (Radbouduniveriteit Nijmegen) en dr. Elsa van Wezel (Berlijn, Institut für Museumsforschung) coördinator van de werkgroep van het Huizingainstituut: Overheidsmusea en nationale identiteit (Europa, ca 1760-1918) . Zoals uit haar lijst met publicaties blijkt, zijn het nu de Britse nationale musea in de negentiende eeuw die centraal in haar onderzoek staan. Zij is lid van de Londense werkgroep The National Gallery History Group.

Momenteel werkt zij, met Michiel Jonker, aan de catalogus van Hollandse en Vlaamse schilderijen voor Dulwich Picture Gallery, Londen.

Zij is onder meer lid van de Maatschappij der Nederlandse Letterkunde.
