Karin Hügel, Mag. theol.
I'm an external member of ASCH, that is the Amsterdam School for Culture and History, and of ARC-GS, that is the Amsterdam Research Center for Gender and Sexuality, and want to finish my PhD studies at the University of Amsterdam (supervisors: Prof. dr. Jan Willem van Henten and Prof. dr. Irene Zwiep) but need subsidies to do so. The provisional title of my dissertation is "Queer Readings of the Hebrew Bible" ("Queere Lesarten der Hebräischen Bibel") - it will be written in German.
I got a bursary of ESWTR and used my budget having been an external member of the Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis for attending the 13th International Conference of the European Society of Women in Theological Research 2009 "Wrestling with God" in Winchester, United Kingdom, and gave my mini-lecture on "Female Homoeroticism and the Hebrew Bible". In the journal of ESWTR 18 (2010) Wrestling with God appeared a longer article on this subject with the title "Queer Readings of the Hebrew Bible: The Book of Ruth and the Creation Accounts".
I gave a lecture on a queer reading of Joseph at the Winter meeting of The Old Testament Society in the Netherlands and in Belgium (OTW) at the Free University of Amsterdam on February 2, 2012 and published my article “A Queer Reading of Joseph: Jewish Interpretations of the Beautiful Young Man in the Hebrew Bible” in Biblische Notizen 157 in 2013 as a result of my research into queer readings of the Hebrew Bible at the University of Amsterdam.
My two articles "A Queer Reading of Qohelet 4,9-12" in Scandinavian Journal of the Old Testament 28/1 and "Queer Readings of the Songs of Songs" in the Journal of the European Society of Women in Theological Research 21 are parts of my dissertation in progress.
