Myrthe Sonneveld researched antibody Fc-glycosylation affecting alloimmunity and autoimmunity towards blood cells in order to help develop new diagnostic methods to predict the severity of alloantibody-derived blood disease. Examples include fetal or newborn haemolytic disease, better known as Rhesus disease, and fetal or neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia. In addition, Sonneveld looked at the Fc-glycosylation of autoantibody-derived blood diseases, attempting to understand why the immune system makes B cells to produce differently glycosylated antibodies.
