Raquel Méndez Villamizar studies gender relations and the capabilities of women in contexts of gold and oil extraction. The research is based on two locations in Colombia, a gold mining area and an area with oil fields. Villamizar focuses on the socio-cultural framing of femininity and masculinity by looking at three domains: love and affective relationships, parenthood, and wage labour.
