Cyanobacteria are photosynthetic bacteria that can directly convert CO2 into chemicals, fueled only by sunlight. Using cyanobacteria to take up CO2 from the atmosphere and convert it into useful products is therefore an important focus in research on sustainable forms of bio-based production. Wei Du investigates the genetic instability of the direct conversion process, with the aim of developing stable cyanobacterial cell factories.
