Role of astrocytes in Alzheimer's

Astrocytes are the most numerous type of macroglia in the central nervous system. Under pathological conditions, astrocytes alter their morphology, become hypertrophic and undergo a process referred to as reactive gliosis. Lana Beex attempts to better define this state of reactive gliosis and its functional consequences in relation to Alzheimer’s disease, to shed light on the mechanisms underlying this disease.
