Cytosolic pH (pHc) is a crucial parameter in the cell because it is highly dynamic and it changes affect the function of all biomolecules containing weakly acidic or basic groups. Although it can influence most biological processes, our understanding of how pHc is controlled and what are the consequences of changes in pHc is rather limited. Laura Dolz Edo investigates these two aspects of cytosolic pH signaling within the context of environmental signaling in the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
