University of Amsterdam to open 2013-2014 academic year with an eye on China

The UvA will officially open the 2013-2014 academic year on Monday, 2 September. During the opening ceremony, a number of speakers will expatiate on the theme ‘Amsterdam in the wider world: China’. Staff, students and other interested persons are welcome to attend.

The UvA and China

The UvA is proud of its long-term and flourishing collaboration with its partners in China. These partnerships have been intensified in recent years and will continue to develop in the years ahead. Numerous joint research initiatives exist in the field of research. These partnerships also present students with opportunities to prepare themselves for an international career.

Programme

The following persons will deliver an address during the opening:

  • Dr Louise Gunning-Schepers, president of the Executive Board of the UvA and the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS/HvA)
  • Fenrong Liu, professor of Logic and vice-director of the department of Philosophy at Tsinghua University, Beijing
  • Johan van Benthem, professor of Pure and Applied Logic at the University of Amsterdam
  • Mr Dimitri de Vreeze, member of the Board of Executives at DSM

The musical interlude will be provided by the UvA J. Pzn Sweelinck Orchestra.

Time and location

The opening of the 2013-2014 academic year will be held in the Aula of the UvA (Singel 411, on the corner of Spui square).

The ceremony will commence at 15:00. The Aula will be open from 14:30.
