22 UvA doctoral candidates receive a UvA385 grant
The University of Amsterdam has awarded UvA385 Grants to 22 doctoral researchers. The UvA385 Grant is a new initiative that was introduced following the 385th anniversary of the University of Amsterdam. In line with the anniversary theme of 'Inspiring Generations', this new generation of scientists is given an additional opportunity to gain experience in an international context.
Scientists work in an international world. As such, for young researchers, gaining experience in an international context is very important for their future. The UvA385 Grant offers doctoral researchers the opportunity to gain experience in an international context, in addition to those opportunities already offered within the doctoral programme. The grant can be used to various ends, such as a conference or course abroad, or a visit to colleagues outside the Netherlands for networking purposes.
The selection committee came to the conclusion that all of the applications were of very high quality. Furthermore, the number of applications (94 in total) revealed that there was definitely a demand for these grants. All faculties were represented by the doctoral researchers that obtained grants.
The second application round for the UvA385 Grants will be announced on the University's birthday in 2018. More information about the time frame and the procedure will be posted on the website.
The UvA385 Grants represent a collaboration between the University of Amsterdam and the Amsterdam University Fund. The goal is for the grant to be made available into the future as well. To this end, a fund-raising campaign will be launched in autumn.
