UvA climbs to 57th place in QS World University Rankings 2018/2019
The University of Amsterdam (UvA) has climbed to the 57th position in the QS World University Rankings 2018/2019, up one spot from last year’s 58th place. The rankings list was published on Wednesday, 6 June.
Since the inception of the QS Ranking – first published as a separate ranking in 2010 – the UvA has consistently situated itself between the 50th and 63place in the world. Within Europe, the UvA is ranked as one of the top 15 universities.
The UvA is once again the second-highest Dutch university on the list. The top spot goes to TU Delft at number 52. Three Dutch universities are currently listed in the top 100 – the UvA, TUD and TU Einhoven (in 99th place). Just like previous years, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT, USA) leads the rankings at number 1.
Rankings by subject
In February, QS published their 2018 World Rankings by Subject. In this ranking, the UvA was listed as number one in the world for Communication Science and Media Studies, in addition to high rankings for several other subject areas.
The QS World University Rankings are compiled based on six criteria: academic reputation (40%), employer reputation (10%), citations per faculty (20%), student to faculty ration (20%), international faculty (5%) and international students (5%).
