Dr F.O. ter Kuile (1962) has been named Professor by Special Appointment of Tropical Epidemiology in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Amsterdam (AMC-UvA).

Dr F.O. ter Kuile (1962) has been named Professor by Special Appointment of Tropical Epidemiology in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Amsterdam (AMC-UvA). This chair has been established in cooperation with the Association for the Advancement of Physics, Medicine and Surgery (Genootschap ter bevordering van Natuur-, Genees- en Heelkunde).

Feiko ter Kuile studied Medicine at the UvA and has 20 years of experience as a clinical researcher. His research concentrates primarily on the epidemiology, treatment and prevention of malaria tropica. He is the head of the Malaria in Pregnancy Consortium - an international partnership between 40 universities and research institutes - and conducts research into new methods for combating malaria during pregnancy. Ter Kuile also works in close cooperation with the Emma Children's Hospital's Global Child Health Group to explore interventions for the treatment of recurrent malaria in young children with severe anaemia in Malawi.

As a researcher in the Internal Medicine programme group at the AMC, Ter Kuile spent six years working in Thailand in a joint partnership with the University of Oxford and Mahidol University in Bangkok. He subsequently worked with staff from the American Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for eight years in Kenya and Atlanta. Since 2003, Ter Kuile has served as Professor of Tropical Epidemiology and head of the Malaria Epidemiology section in the Child and Reproductive Health Group at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (Liverpool, UK). He is also active in a number of different advisory committees, including as a member of various WHO technical expert groups for the treatment and prevention of malaria. Ter Kuile earned his PhD degree cum laude from the UvA in 1994. In 1999 he was awarded the Eijkman Medal for his research into resistant malaria tropica.
