Prof. N.A.N.M. van Eijk (1961) has been named professor of Information Law, specialising in Media and Telecommunications Law at the University of Amsterdam’s (UvA) Faculty of Law.
Prof. N.A.N.M. van Eijk (1961) has been named professor of Information Law, specialising in Media and Telecommunications Law at the University of Amsterdam's (UvA) Faculty of Law.
Developments in the information society play a key role in Nico van Eijk's research. Legislation in the area of media and telecommunications is continually changing as a result of technological developments, new user applications and greater social and economic significance. For example, convergence - which eliminates the need for traditional links between networks and services - raises new questions about existing regulation arrangements. However, it is also essential to ensure that fundamental principles in areas such as the freedom of expression and the protection of privacy are not eroded.
Van Eijk previously held a position as professor by special appointment of Media and Telecommunications Law at the University of Amsterdam, where he has served at the Institute for Information Law (IViR) since 1987. He also works as an advisor at Rabobank International and the law offices of NautaDutilh. In addition, Van Eijk is a member of the supervisory board of the Netherlands Public Broadcasting Organisation (NPO) and chairman of the Association for Media and Communications Law (VMC).
