Dr R. Núñez Queija (1972) has been named professor of Industrial Mathematics by special appointment at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) Faculty of Science (FNWI). The chair was installed by the Stichting Bèta Plus (Science Plus Foundation).

Rudesindo Núñez Queija's research on mathematical queuing theory focuses on the design, management and analysis of complex computer and communication networks. The continued increasing popularity of the Internet and mobile communication networks - and the increasing diversity of applications on these platforms - is a new impetus for this field of research in which Dutch scientists have played a leading role for decades. The chair was established in collaboration with Centrum Wiskunde en Informatica (CWI), the Dutch research institute for mathematics and computer science.

Núñez Queija is also affiliated with the Operations Research group at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Amsterdam. He previously worked as a researcher at the Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et Automatique (INRIA) in France. In addition, he has held positions at CWI, Eindhoven University of Technology and at TNO Information and Communication Technology (the institute for ICT of the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research). Núñez Queija is associate editor of Mathematical Methods of Operations Research and Performance Evaluation. He was co-editor of special issues of Queuing Systems, Annals of Operations Research, Lecture Notes in Computer Science and Performance Evaluation. Currently, he is a member of the general board of of of the Dutch Network of Mathematical Operations Research (LNMB). He has published extensively in international journals on fundamental queuing theory and applications to computer and communication systems.
