Prof. M.P. Grobusch (1964) has been named professor of Tropical Medicine at the University of Amsterdam's Faculty Of Medicine (AMC-UvA).

Martin Grobusch conducts research into health problems arising from infectious diseases in developing countries. The focus of his research is primarily on the prevention, diagnosis, clinical aspects and treatment of malaria. Grobusch carried out these activities mainly at the Albert Schweizer Hospital in Lambaréné, Gabon. He also conducts research on tuberculosis, with a focus on southern Africa and on the prevention of infectious diseases and health problems among travellers.

Grobusch works as professor of Infectious Diseases at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. He also previously worked for the Institute for Tropical Medicine in Tübingen, Germany, and at the Albert Schweizer Hospital in Lambaréné. He is editorial consultant for The Lancet and editorial board member of the Malaria Journal. Based on his work he was nominated ‘Eminent Scientist of the Year' in 2004, an award presented by the International Research Promotion Council
