Dr J. de Lange has been appointed Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Amsterdam (AMC-UvA).

Dr J. de Lange (1965) has been appointed Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Amsterdam (AMC-UvA).

In his dual role as trainer and head of the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Jan de Lange will devise clear lines of research in the fields of traumatology, infectious diseases and biomaterials. He is registered as a maxillofacial surgeon and epidemiologist, and is able to combine his expertise in both disciplines well. De Lange will seek cooperation between the AMC-UvA and the Academic Centre for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA) in order to develop lines of research. Apart from traumatology, his particular areas of interest are orthognatic surgery and reconstructive jaw surgery. He will also be engaged in the modernisation of the oral and maxillofacial surgery resident program.

De Lange has been working as a surgeon at the AMC-UvA since 1994. Since 1997, he has also worked for the Isala Clinics in Zwolle, where he is also chairman of the Medical Inovation Committee. De Lange is a member of the post-graduate education committee and quality control inspector for the Dutch Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He has published articles in several journals such as the Dutch Journal of Medicine, the Journal of Dental Research and International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
