Dr. S. Middeldorp has been appointed Professor of Internal Medecine, specialising in thrombosis and haemostasis, at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Amsterdam (AMC-UvA).

Dr S. Middeldorp (1966) has been appointed Professor of Internal Medecine, specialising in thrombosis and haemostasis, at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Amsterdam (AMC-UvA).

Saskia Middeldorp conducts research on the etiology of thrombosis, clinical implications of thrombotic risk factors, and the development and application of new anticoagulant medicines. She focuses on special niches within thrombosis research, such as the optimal prevention and treatment of thrombosis and other vascular complications in pregnant women.

Middeldorp is an internist subspecialized in vascular medicine. Since 2006, she has held the position of internist and professor at the Clinical Epidemiology and Internal Medicine department of the Leiden University. Prior to that, she was an internist and researcher for the AMC-UvA. As principal investigator, she has received several grants for research. In 2008, she was awarded the Clinical Established Investigatorship of more than 530,000 euro from the Netherlands Heart Foundation (Nederlandse Hartstichting) for research on the relationship between arterial and venous thrombosis. Middeldorp has been published in a variety of international scientific journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Blood, Circulation, Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis and PLoS Medicine.
