Radiotherapy has developed in leaps and bounds. The field has seen particularly significant gains in terms of technology and therapy prediction, leading to significant improvement of the effectiveness/toxicity ratio. In the years to come, the focus will be on optimally applying this improved ratio and ensuring clinical validation. Oncology is a multidisciplinary field; all efforts will be conducted in close collaboration with the AMC-UvA.

Coen Rasch has worked as a radiologist-oncologist at the Dutch Cancer Institute - Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital (NKI-AVL) since 1996. From 2005 onwards, he also served as Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) implementation group leader at NKI-AVL, where he later also served as adaptive therapy group leader. He also lectures for the European Society for Radiotherapy & Oncology (ESTRO), especially in Europe and Asia. Rasch has been coordinator of the EU ARTFORCE research project (Adaptive and Innovative Radiation Treatment FOR improving Cancer patients treatment outcome) since 2009, an initiative aimed at improving radiotherapy treatment of head, neck and lung cancer.
