Massimo Giuliodori’s research interests are in the field of monetary and fiscal economics. In particular, he has conducted empirical research aimed at identifying and quantifying the relative importance of alternative transmission channels of both monetary and fiscal policies. More recently, Giuliodori has been working on how the Eurozone crisis has affected the responsiveness of sovereign bonds markets to auctions, news and the unconventional monetary policies implemented by the European Central Bank. Giuliodori’s previous research also focused on the institutional, political and economic determinants of the fiscal budgetary process in Europe in general, and the Netherlands in particular.

Since obtaining his PhD from the University of Glasgow in 2003, Giuliodori has worked at the UvA’s research group ‘Macroeconomics and International Economics’ (MInt). From 2010-2013, he was director of the first-year of the Bachelor’s programme Economics and Business.

In addition to being a research fellow at the Tinberger Institute’s (TI) Macroeconomics and International Economics (MIE) research group since 2005, Giuliodori was also appointed director of the Institute’s Master’s programmes in May of 2013. Besides being the co-author (with F. Mishkin and K. Matthews) of the European edition of the undergraduate textbook The Economics of Money, Banking and Financial Markets, Giuliodori has also published his work in several academic journals, including the Journal of Economic Literature, the Economic Journal, the Journal of the European Economic Association, and Economic Policy.
