Sander Klous researches the way in which business and society can maximise the benefits of insights gained through data analysis. His research involves bridging technical requirements (processing of large quantities of data into useable insights) with social requirements (fulfilling social demands in terms of privacy and convenience) and the translation of theory into practice. The latter concerns ensuring that technical and social requirements are met when Big Data systems are set up, and that the insights generated are translated into the needs and wishes of individuals, organisations and society as a whole. 

Klous has led KPMG Advisory’s Big Data Analytics service since 2010. He obtained his doctorate in the field of high-energy physics. He previously worked at the National Institute for Subatomic Physics (NIKHEF) and worked on various projects at the CERN particle accelerator. Klous has been the recipient of various grants and prizes related to high-performance distributed computing, and has published many articles in this field.
